The Better Business Bureau of Southwest Idaho & Eastern Oregon is proud to announce the Student Ethics Award program. This program recognizes high school students who personify high ethics demonstrated through leadership, community service, overall personal integrity and academic history. Scholarship awards will be presented at the BBB’s Integrity Counts! Banquet, the date to be determined.

Eligibility
The applicant must be a junior in high school (senior status starting the fall semester 2009) residing in southwest Idaho or eastern Oregon. The applicant must have a desire to continue his/her education at an accredited college or university.

Award Guidelines
A selection committee comprised of members of the BBB’s advisory council will select two students to receive a one-time scholarship of $1,000 each from the first 250 applications received before the deadline. Scholarship recipients will be selected based on their leadership, contributions to their communities and schools, personal integrity, academic accomplishments, and written essay. The funds will be distributed directly to the school upon verification of the student's college enrollment. The scholarship must be applied toward school related expenses including; tuition, books, room and/or board, or other related items. The scholarship must be applied within four years of receiving the award.

Decisions of the selection committee are final.

Deadline
The official deadline for submitting entries is July 10, 2009. Completed application packet must be received at the BBB by this date. Any application packets received after 5:00 P.M. on July 10, 2009 will be automatically disqualified.

Criteria
The criteria for each award includes: Leadership 20%, Community service 20%, Academic 30%, Essay 30%. Student should demonstrate their commitment to high ethical behavior and provide documentation in the following areas:
1. Leadership. - Describe any extra curricular, work, or school related activities. Include awards/honors or offices held.

2. Community Service. - Describe activities outside of school and within your community, such as church or special community activities. Include awards/honors or offices held.

3. Academic.
- Enclose a copy of your most recent transcript, SAT scores or Iowa Basic scores
- Describe your post-secondary education plans
- Describe awards received relating to your academic achievement

4. Essay. – The response to the essay question should be on one 8.5" x 11 page, single-spaced. Write a concise essay (500 words) on your response to the following: What do the words “ethics” and “integrity” mean to you? Why are they important to you?
Entries must include the completed entry form (click on entry form)and three letters of recommendation: e.g. school official, employer, church or community leader. Each recommendation letter should be 300 words or less.

Supporting documentation should be typed and submitted on 8.5" x 11" paper. A copy of the transcript will be accepted. Please retain a copy of your completed entry. All submitted entries become the property of the Better Business Bureau of Southwest Idaho & Eastern Oregon and cannot be returned.
