“Time Heals All Wounds”… Except in Dispute Resolution

While this old saying may apply to affairs of the heart, it does not apply to disputes. As a mediator/arbitrator, one of the issues I hear raised by plaintiffs in almost every case is “Why did they take so long to resolve this?” This issue is perceived by plaintiffs as either a strategy to wear them down in hopes they will just go away or a sign of disrespect. In either case it galvanizes the plaintiffs’ resolve that they were wronged and should not compromise on the resolution they seek.

Looking For Love In All The Wrong Places

The Federal Bureau of Investigation issued the warning this week: Don’t click on the electronic version of a Valentine’s Day card. The e-mail directs the recipient to click on a link to retrieve the e-card. Once the user clicks on the link, malware is downloaded to the computer and causes it to become infected. Your Credit Score is Going to Change – FICO 08 is Coming!

Joining a Gym? Complaints to BBB reveal how to get fit while avoiding the pitfalls

Complaints received by Better Business Bureau for fitness clubs have increased more than 90 percent in the last 5 years. And according to a new analysis conducted by BBB, the most common complaints consumers have about fitness clubs focus on two related areas, contract disputes (41.5 percent) and billing issues (31.7 percent). BBB has also seen a rise in complaints about fitness centers that sold memberships, only to go out of business a few weeks later (15.1 percent), leaving disgruntled customers behind trying to recoup their advance payments.

Consumers may voluntarily freeze their credit reports

Idaho consumers concerned about the risk of identity theft should consider placing a voluntary freeze on their credit reports, Attorney General Lawrence Wasden said. Wasden noted that each of the three major credit reporting agencies (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion) offers consumers the ability to freeze their credit reports.

Privacy Issues and ID Theft are Top Concerns of Online Shoppers, According to New Survey by BBB: BBB Offers Advice for a Safe Holiday Shopping Experience

A new Better Business Bureau (BBB) survey conducted by Kelton Research finds that six in 10 (60 percent) American adult online shoppers are worried about their personal information being sold or reused when asked what has ever made them hesitant about completing a transaction online. Nearly the same amount (59 percent), admit they’ve had anxiety about their credit card information being stolen.

A new Better Business Bureau (BBB) national survey conducted by market research firm Kelton Research finds that more than four in ten (42 percent) Americans admit they do not look at extended warranty policies that come with their purchase.
